The eagle has been in various crafts and visual arts interpreted for representing St John the Apostle. In the choice of accompanying Liz Lefroy's poems with artwork, the eagle is opening the reading and is echoed at the closure of the reading. The eagle's figure is a lapse of time with beating wings, aiming at beauty and mystery in our frailty. The image of the Book held by the eagle is a potential landscape with the unity of water, light, sound, silence. The outlines of the eagle’s body are then echoed in an open landscape of one’s imagination at the end of the reading. The visuals of a prism and the division of light take the dynamism of sound or silence, or the scale of time.
